Focus: Feathered Red Carpet Welcomes the Loeries

Loeries 2007Wow that tent is massive, lets just hope it doesn't rain this time around. Lions Show organizers were very happy this year to have had a "rainless" weekend, lets just hope the same will be true for the Loeries. For those of you who don't yet know, the Loerie Awards were first held in 1978, as a mechanism to support and grow television advertising. Since then the awards have expanded to encompass every area of brand communication including radio and print advertising, design, architecture, direct marketing, non-broadcast video, live events, and digital media. The awards are now regionally focused on Africa and the Middle East , and entries from outside of this region are not eligible. More info here: http://www.theloerieawards.co.za/awards/

"The tent is up, the bar counters are newly shined and the kids are excited! Margate is almost ready for Loeries this weekend" -- reports the BizCommunity website - www.bizcommunity.com

Some highlights for locals include the parade at 4pm on Saturday, and the 11am Miss South Coast Beauty Pageant on Saturday as well. Come spend the day in Margate, you are bound to spot some celebs, or just make some new friends. Sunday is the awards ceremony for ticket holders only.

Come get involved, see the schedule online here: http://www.scnews.co.za/images/loeries2007big.jpg

Hibiscus Fire & Rescue Suffers a Great Loss

Fire Engine It has been 10 days since the tragic accident (Mon, 16 July) between Hibiscus Coast Fire & Rescue vehicle, the big Fire Engine, and a KZT bus carrying many passengers, in which 3 firefighters, and 4 bus passengers lost there lives. Some photos taken at the scene are available online ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/scnews/sets/72157600886997547/show/ ). These have specifically been made available for international people to view, as well as locals who may find themselves abroad. For some this may be the only way to see images of the accident, online. Please feel free to pass on this email to them. The photos show the destruction to the vehicles only, and are not graphic.

Something to consider: Firemen are the brave ones running into a burning building, when everyone else is running out! Next time you see a firemen, why tip your hat in thanks, and respect them as the heroes they are. Its fire season. If you see a fire, report it. Don't just assume someone else already has: 0396885555

Defending the Planet - Comedy Show

Defending the PlanetTypical of Aaron McIlroy’s and Lisa Bobbert’s unique comedic style, Defending the Planet discusses the trauma of victims who have been “probed” by aliens. Introducing a succession of off-the-wall characters and foot-stomping music, they suggest how to fend off alien invasions and how to avoid falling victim to these outlandish creatures. The show focuses on a self-help group of victims of alien abductions, formed to examine close encounters of various kinds. Through "case scenarios" featuring off-the- wall characters and an eclectic range of foot stomping music, suggestions are made as to how one can deal with an "invasion" and avoid falling victim to these outlandish creatures. Don't miss this madcap couple in their latest hilarious musical comedy. Book your tickets now for next Saturday, 6h30 on 4 August 2007 at the Paddock Farmers Club. Contact Jamie Stedman 0824107252, Cheryl Stedman 0823731755. Book now, only 200 tickets available!

Tech Article: Social Networking and You

The internet is a great place for you to meet new people, make new friends, and so much more. There are also some dangers that you need to be aware of too. Firstly, never give out any of your personal information, even if you think it is to a trusted site. The site may be accessed by other people, who you may not want to access that information. A modern trend that is taking off around the world is the Social Networking craze.

Social networking is basically putting your info, photos, and what you got up to lately on a website, so that your friends can keep in touch with you. Its also a great way to find old long lost buddies, school friends, etc. Because it is international, and always available, and very popular, social networks are probably the best place to find your old friends, and stay in touch with all your friends.

Be warned though, don't give out any of your personal info, physical address, cell number, etc. Any info you do put out there will also become available to all sorts of "weirdo's" who may use that info to do you harm. Same goes for any pictures you may upload that may be abused by others. For fascinating, in depth info on Facebook, one of the most popular social networking websites, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook

Enjoy the social networks, but be safe! See www.facebook.com (the worlds most popular social networking website) and www.zoopy.com (South Africa's own great photo and video sharing website)

Hot Tip: Can't remember how to find that great website you were looking at yesterday? Check your internet history (shortcut is [ctrl] + [h] )

Movie Review: Transformers

TransformersWho remembers Transformers? I do! (showing my age). For those of you that don't know, transformers was a craze back in the late 80s. Just about every kid had one of the little plastic toys that transformed into various robots. And now, they're back!

For the boys there's fast paced storyline, very hot girl, beast of a car... which also transforms into a giant robot with every robotic gadget and weapon one can possibly imagine, and did I mention a fast storyline? Will this movie keep you on the edge of your seat for 2 hours plus? I don't know, but it did so for me. It big, its loud, its got some great sound tracks, and it just keeps coming at you. Not just for the guys either, the ladies, and even parents will enjoy this one too.

Rating. 7/10

Until next time
